MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Job and Family Services provides vital services to 280 children per month who are involved in cases related to child abuse and neglect.
At times, it is necessary for the interactions between parents and children to be supervised. To meet the needs of these families, visitation rooms are utilized, with visits facilitated by KCJFS Social Services staff. It is important that these visitation rooms be a safe and welcoming environment for parents to spend time with their children. On average, 16 visitations are held each week.
Recognizing the importance of providing a space conducive to the needs of the families, KCJFS Social Services partnered with The Forgotten Initiative to renovate both visitation rooms. The Forgotten Initiative volunteers spent five days updating the rooms from top to bottom.
They replaced carpet with laminate flooring, painted the rooms to brighten them up, replaced art and decorations to make it more cheerful, set up new furniture and provided all new toys. All materials, supplies and items for the rooms were donated through The Forgotten Initiative. KCJFS Social Services is grateful for the renovation, and appreciative of the hard work completed by the volunteers.
The Forgotten Initiative (TFI) provides support to Knox County families and the foster care community through awareness, encouragement, and advocacy. TFI, Knox County Coordinator Britt Clark and her team of volunteers provide support throughout the year to families, foster youth, resource parents, and social services caseworkers.
