Doris "Dorie" Fern Moran

Doris “Dorie” Fern Moran, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 27, 2023, at The Laurels of Mt. Vernon after complications from a fall.

She was born on February 15, 1934, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio to Fred Emerson and Letha Fern Moran.  Her mother died in childbirth, so Dorie was raised by her loving Aunt Letia “Mom” and Uncle Ross “Daddy” Hardesty, along with their two children, Allie Mae “Peggy” Hardesty and Glenn  “Gid” Hardesty and their grandson, Keith Hardesty.

She graduated in 1952 from Bladensburg High School where she was a trombone player in the band.

Dorie retired from Cooper Energy Services after working 43 years in the Microfilm and Reproduction Department.  She also worked a few temporary contract employment positions after her retirement.  She was a Notary for many years, just recently retiring from that responsibility.  Dorie also taught guitar lessons at Colonial Music after work and on Saturdays to students for many years.

She was the leader of the Satin Sound Band and played at many functions including weddings, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays, community functions, etc., and held various official positions as a member of the Musicians Union.

Dorie dearly loved her family and friends and supported her community in many ways.  She enjoyed all things music especially Big Band music, her work, reading, family genealogy and keeping the family informed of events.  She was the most organized person you could ever know.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.

We want to express our deep appreciation to the ER staff at KCH, Life Flight, Ohio State University Medical Center-Brain & Neurology doctors and nurses, the staff and nurses at the Laurels of Mt. Vernon, Hospice and Dr. Brent Nimeth.

Special thanks to Larry & Sue Hardesty, Janet Eberts and Keith & Judy Hardesty for all the love, care and support for Dorie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bladensburg Fire Department or a Non-Kill Animal Shelter of your choice.

In keeping with Dorie’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
