GAMBIER — Gambier is moving forward on two grants that could see improvements to walkways and the village’s water system.
The first grant is in connection with the Ohio Department of Transportation. The village would submit a full transportation alternatives program (TAP) grant by Jan. 31, 2023 for the shared use path from the proposed roundabout to Ward/Wiggins street crossing.
The roundabout will be at the intersection of Ohio 308 and 229, and could cost roughly $2.2 million.
The estimated cost of the multi-use path is expected to be $391,000. The TAP funds would pay up to 95% in eligible costs, Village Administrator R.C. Wise noted in his report.
Eighty percent of the engineering cost up to $77,200 will be paid for from the dedicated funding allocation received by the Central Ohio Rural Transportation Organization, according to Wise’ administrative report.
The second grant is from the Ohio EPA, which awarded the village $50,000 in a no-match grant to complete lead service line mapping.
The formal grant requires work to be completed within 12 months of signing the contract, Wise said. Three fourths of the money can be requested ahead of time so the work can begin sooner.
