MOUNT VERNON — Alumni of the Ohio State University Marching Band – joined by some musician friends – performed at several sites in Mount Vernon Friday to generate enthusiasm in advance of next weekend’s Ohio State-Michigan football game.
Similar alumni groups made public appearances throughout the state.
Performances usually are on Friday immediately before Saturday’s final regular season rivalry game between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines. The schedule was moved up a week because of Thanksgiving.
The Mount Vernon contingent included:

– Sara Lawhon, soprano cornet
– Robert Atwell, drums
– Carol McCutcheon, trumpet (Michigan State University)
– Ryan Rupp, trombone
– Matt Visconti, base drum, Mount Vernon Nazarene University
– Gina Lawhon, sousaphone, Mount Vernon Nazarene University

Staff member Kari Talbott joined the band as Brutus Buckeye during the band’s performance at the Learning Center.
The group began their day with an 8:30 a.m. performance at the Knox Educational Service Center’s Learning Center before moving on to Twin Oak Elementary School.
After performing at Knox Community Hospital, where they also had lunch, the alumni band moved on to Dan Emmett Elementary and Columbia Elementary before concluding their day with a 3 p.m. performance at East Elementary.
The football Buckeyes travel to the University of Maryland Saturday. They will welcome Michigan into the ‘Shoe on Nov. 26.
