Fredericktown's water tower was recently painted along with several safety improvements.

FREDERICKTOWN — A ruby red capital F can be seen shining off Fredericktown’s 1915 water tower.

It’s a first for the village’s high tower, which was in need of several repairs if residents wanted to see it last another 15 years. A consultant firm told officials that’s how long the tower would last if zero improvements were made, Fredericktown’s village administrator Bruce Snell said.

The seven-year project is juxtaposed with the growing revitalization efforts planned throughout Fredericktown’s Main Street.

The water tower has a new ladder and wider railing along the catwalk closer to four feet tall, Snell said.

The village administrator also said new vents and sealing are on top of the tower too. In addition, it was sandblasted from top to bottom, and received a coat of primer and three coats of epoxy-based coating.

The total cost of the project, approximately $425,000, was federally funded from American Rescue Plan Act monies and an intergovernmental partnership with the Knox County Commissioners, using no local funds, Snell said.

“We’re trying to give Fredericktown a facelift,” the village administrator said. “This further compliments it.”
