Most of us believe America is the greatest country in the world, a belief rooted in our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Fundamental ideals — which we must safeguard to guarantee the health of our republic — include free and fair elections and the rule of law.
In Ohio, Republican lawmakers have failed us by failing to protect these foundations of our democracy.
The HB6 scandal, to which both the Governor and Attorney General have been linked, is the most costly statewide scandal anywhere in the US, rife with bribery and dark money.
And foot-dragging on the part of the Republican Governor, Auditor, and Secretary of State — as members of the Redistricting Commission — ensured that our district maps remain gerrymandered, allowing legislators to choose their voters rather than voters to choose their lawmakers.
Seventy percent of us voted twice for our districts to be fairly redrawn, but our maps remain partisan — and we paid $21 million for that failure!
Further, when the Ohio State Supreme Court ruled the maps unconstitutional, Republican members of that Court made sure that it did not intervene.
In November, we must come together to stand up for clean government, the rule of law, and fair representation. Vote for civil servants who will respond to the real needs of Ohioans: vote for Democrats.
