CENTERBURG — Centerburg’s Superintendent is asking the board to approve the purchase of several new HVAC units for the administrative building, hoping to pass the piece of legislation at October’s meeting.
Supt. Ryan Gallwitz laid out the plan to the board at Monday’s meeting, noting approval should happen at October’s meeting so the units can be ordered and arrive in the summer months.
After all, Gallwitz explained, shipping delays still percolate throughout the country.
“The longer we wait, the longer it’ll be to get these units in,” the superintendent said.
Payment for the HVAC units would be funded by COVID-era ESSER funds and the general budget. ESSER funds would be taking the majority of the check — $325,000. The general fund would cover the rest — $247,000.
“Financially, it’s the only option,” Gallwitz said. “The other option is to do nothing.”
If the board approves Gallwitz’s idea, the building wouldn’t have to fire up the boiler during the spring or fall, he said.
“Having these electric units we’d be able to maintain the temperature throughout the night.”
Maintenance on the boiler would remain, Gallwitz said.
He also stated that this upgrade will extend the life of the former high school 10 to 15 years.
