No matter where we live, most of us value privacy and do not want the government to mandate our healthcare decisions. Most of us know that we will make the best decisions about our health by closely consulting with our families and with our doctors.
Yet, Governor DeWine and most Republican legislators in Ohio have stripped many girls and women of the right to privacy and appropriate medical care by passing the extreme 6-week ban on abortion.
This ban has no exceptions for incest or rape and no exceptions for fatal fetal abnormalities. We’ve now seen the effect of this ban in the tragic story of the 10-year old girl who had to travel from Ohio to Indiana to get an abortion after being raped.
We’ve also seen that doctors now have to assess their legal risk against their ethical requirement to provide the best care to their patients.
Governor DeWine has indicated that he supports a total ban on all abortions, forcing women to give birth whether or not it affects the health or welfare of the mother, the child or the family.
We can put an end to these heartbreaking stories by voting the heartless legislators out of office. By coming together, we can stop this extremist healthcare agenda by voting for Nan Whaley for governor in November.
Every girl and woman and family deserves the right to plan for their family and be ready to love their baby when they are born.
