MOUNT VERNON — A Knox County man was indicted for the third time this month, this time on drug-related charges.

The Aug. 29 Knox County Grand Jury indicted Vernon W. Kanode Jr., 26, on charges of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; possessing drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor; and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

An Aug. 1 grand jury indicted him on one count of abduction, a third-degree felony, and assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. That case is pending.

More recently, Kanode was indicted on Aug. 15 for failure to provide a change of address to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. A criminal jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 4.

Kanode is required to register a change of address because he pleaded guilty in 2017 to a fourth-degree felony charge of rape of a minor and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. The incident occurred in August 2016.

In February 2019, Kanode pleaded guilty to inducing a panic stemming from an incident in July 2018 when he barricaded himself inside a second-floor apartment with a firearm. He received a 17-month sentence to be served concurrently with a Morrow County case.

In February 2016, a Knox County Grand Jury indicted Kanode on one charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. He pleaded guilty in May 2016 and was sentenced to three years of community control.

Monday’s grand jury handed down six other indictments in addition to Kanode:
