MOUNT VERNON — Local officials signed off on the Table Rock subdivision, the first subdivision to reach fruition in many years.
The Regional Planning Commission approved the final plat map on July 21. On Thursday, the Knox County commissioners, Hillier Township trustees, county engineer, and Knox Public Health made it official.
The subdivision is on Wilson Road just south of Centerburg. Owners Jeff and Christine Hackett became interested in the property in 2014 and bought it in 2016. They initially planned a 59-lot subdivision but decided they wanted to retain the 18-hole golf course and keep the rural aspect.
“That involved us scaling it back in scope,” Jeff Hackett said.
Hackett said a developer interested in high-density housing approached him, but he was not interested.
“We settled on something that fulfills what we intended to start with and still have golf,” he said.
The final plat calls for 11 2-acre lots; the lots will remain in Hilliar Township. Each will have its own septic and water. Table Rock Realty is listing an asking price of $150,000 for each lot.
Hackett said he wants to break ground on a house yet this month. Schlabach Builders is slated to break ground on Oct. 1.
“I am happy we are going to get some development,” Commissioner Teresa Bemiller said. “We definitely need housing, there’s no doubt about that.”
“We are excited to see the houses go up,” agreed Commissioner Bill Pursel.
