MOUNT VERNON – Judge John Thatcher found 13 people guilty and sentenced two defendants after court trials, arraignments and hearings were conducted this week in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court.
These were the cases brought forward by the Mount Vernon Law Director’s Office.
JULY 13
Dakota Spurgeon, 18, of Howard, was found guilty of Failure to Use Reasonable Control and having Fictitious Plates on his vehicle. The Court sentenced him to pay a $50 fine for Failure to Use Reasonable Control and a $25 fine on the Fictitious Plates.
Director of Law, Rob Broeren, represented the State of Ohio in the above case.
JULY 12
MOUNT VERNON – Judge John Thatcher found nine guilty and sentenced two people after arraignments, hearings and sentencings were held in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court on July 12, 2022.
Brylan Durbin, 20, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Speeding. The Court sentenced him to pay a $40 fine.
Anne Dircksen, 61, of Sidney, was found guilty of Left of Center and Distracted Driving. The Court sentenced her to pay a $125 fine.
Daniel Hollobaugh, 28, of Newark, was found guilty of Driving Under Suspension and Speeding. The Court sentenced him to serve three days in jail for the DUS charge and to pay a $50 fine for Speeding.
Michael Butcher, 52, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle with Expired Plates. The Court sentenced him to pay a $25 fine.
James Looney, 30, of Butler, was found guilty of Driving Under Suspension and Operating a Vehicle with a Fictitious Registration. The Court sentenced him to pay a $250 fine for the DUS charge and a $50 fine for the no registration charge.
Nicholas Sheets, 35, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Theft. The Court sentenced him to serve 10 days in jail, with credit for five days served.
Zachary King, 31, of Centerburg, was found guilty of Failing to Comply with a Lawful Order. The Court sentenced him to serve 30 days in jail and suspended his operator’s license for 180 days.
Krista Rose, 25, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Disorderly Conduct with Persisting Behavior. The Court sentenced her to serve 30 days in jail, with 25 days suspended, and placed her on one year of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.
Timothy Mongitore, 31, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Domestic Violence. The Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail, with 113 days suspended, and placed him on two years of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.
Pierre Evans, 25, of Massillon, was found guilty of Assault on May 31, 2022. Today he was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail.
James Sunkle, 42, of Heath, was found guilty of Telecommunications Harassment on June 3, 2022. Today the Court sentenced him to serve 180 days in jail, with 159 days suspended, and placed him on two years of probation.

JULY 11
Vernon Kanode, 26, of Centerburg, was found guilty of two counts of Operating a Vehicle without a Valid Operator’s License. The Court sentenced him to pay a $100 for each charge.
Daniel Valvoda, 31, of Columbus, was found guilty of Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The Court sentenced him to pay a $250 fine, serve 30 days in jail, with 27 days suspended, placed him on one year of community control with the following condition: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program, and suspended his operator’s license for 90 days.
Conner Grdina, 24, of Kirtland, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 174 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following conditions: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention program and complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.
