MOUNT VERNON — Three of Knox County’s five baseball teams survived the postseason’s opening week and all three will open district play on their home fields.

Fredericktown, Centerburg and East Knox all won sectional championships last week. The Freddies and Trojans open district play Monday afternoon, while the Bulldogs return to action Tuesday.

Second-seeded Fredericktown will host No. 5 Worthington Christian at 5 p.m. Monday. The Freddies advanced with a 10-0 win over No. 17 Northridge in a game that was closer than the final scored suggested. Fredericktown led 2-0 after four innings before coming to life late.

Worthington Christian beat No. 10 Fairbanks 6-5 in last week’s sectional championship game.

Also in Division III, third-seeded Centerburg will host No. 4 Amanda-Clearcreek at 5 p.m. Monday in the district semifinals. The Trojans beat No. 9 Columbus Academy 6-4 in last week’s sectional final despite managing only three hits.

Amanda-Clearcreek cruised to a 7-2 win over No. 14 North Union to punch its ticket to the district.

In Division IV, third-seeded East Knox will host No. 5 Madison Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Bulldogs pounded No. 17 Harvest Prep 20-0 in last week’s sectional final. Bryar Householder and Peyton Lester combined on a no-hitter in a game that was shortened to three innings.

Madison Christian beat No. 13 Grove City Christian 12-8 to claim a sectional title.
