MOUNT VERNON — “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head was a memorable song from the 1969 movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
The B.J. Thomas’ tune and the film were both a hit.
Unfortunately, the song will be a reality this weekend in north central Ohio, just as graduations dominate the area scene.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected Saturday afternoon and evening across the area, with a few of these storms possibly turning severe.
Storms may initially develop in northwestern Ohio and near the lakeshore farther east before gradually moving east across the area into the evening. Timing is expected to range from 1 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening, with the main risks being locally damaging winds and isolated large hail, the weather service reports.
A few areas may see training of thunderstorms, leading to repeated heavy downpours. This can lead to locally heavy rain and flooding. While a brief/weak tornado can’t be ruled out, it’s a low tornado risk overall, the weather service reported.
Storms will weaken into Saturday night, but scattered showers and a few non-severe storms can continue at times until a cold front moves through the area Sunday morning. Any severe threat on Sunday will likely be southeast of the area.
