CENTERBURG – A vehicle rear ended a Centerburg school bus with 29 passengers ranging from elementary to high schoolers at approximately 7:50 a.m. Wednesday morning on Johnsville Road.
The bus, Centerburg’s bus #19, was stopped to pick up students at the time of the incident, said Centerburg’s director of maintenance and transportation Randy Bradford.
There have been no reported injuries, Bradford said.
Medics checked out passengers at the scene. Another bus transported the passengers to their respective schools when released by law enforcement, and the students could have further evaluations done at their respective schools, Bradford said.
The incident report remains unavailable as of May 19, Karen Hall from the records division of Knox County Sheriff’s Office wrote to Knox Pages.
Bus safety has been of interest across the county, with Mount Vernon City Schools installing stop-arm cameras this year to document illegal bus passings, as well as the state, such as pushes for the enactment of the School Bus Safety Act.
