MOUNT VERNON — Live theater is returning to Mount Vernon High School for the first time since 2018.
On Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, the Mount Vernon High School Drama Club presents Play On!, a three-act comedy by Rick Abbott. Play On! is the story of a community theater group trying their best to mount a successful production of the murder mystery, Murder Most Foul, to predictably disastrous results.
The last MVHS full production was the musical Junie B Jones, in November 2018.
The play-within -a play format is difficult for actors, because a lot of the lines are repeated as they go through rehearsal and performance of their play-within-a-play, and the lines are not always identical or in the same order.
Compounding this is the disaster of an opening night, where lines are forgotten, entrances missed, and a playwright keeps changing the script.
The cast, which includes senior Ella Ackert; juniors Emily Hammond, Logan Montgomery, and Auralie Yoder; sophomores McKinley Figurski, Hannah Snow, and Sage Szucs; and freshmen Karma Carpenter, Gabrielle Fuller and Peyton Hauenstein-Cline, has been in rehearsals since the first week in March.
Performances are Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the MVHS Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Seating is general admission.
