MOUNT VERNON — Eleven people were found guilty and three defendants were sentenced after court trials, arraignments and hearings this week in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.

Judge John Thatcher ruled on these cases brought forward by the Mount Vernon Law Director’s Office.

APRIL 13

Hannah Marshall, 21, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Failing to Use Reasonable Control. The Court sentenced her to pay court costs.

Assistant Director of Law, Brittany Whitney, represented the State of Ohio in the above case.

APRIL 12

Ryheem Williams, 33, of Mansfield, was found guilty of Driving Under Suspension. The Court sentenced him to pay a $200 fine.

David Compton, 32, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Changing Lanes without Signaling. The Court sentenced him to pay a $35 fine.

Hailey Geiger, 19, of Fredericktown, was found guilty of Failing to Keep an Assured Clear Distance Ahead. The Court sentenced her to pay a $25 fine.

Hope Williamson, 26, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Criminal Mischief. The Court sentenced her to serve 180 days in jail, with 175 days suspended, and placed her on two years of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment and complete the Court’s Hands Down Program.

Mary Ferguson, 54, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Driving Under an FRA Suspension. The Court sentenced her to serve three days in jail.

Guy Mills, 50, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Domestic Violence and Assault on March 7, 2022. Today he was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, with 120 days suspended, and was placed on two years of probation with the following condition: complete the Court’s Hands Down program.

Gerald Blanton, 47, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Allowing Underage Persons to Possess Alcohol on March 4, 2022. Today he was sentenced to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 150 days suspended, and was placed on two years of probation with the following condition: complete a drug and alcohol assessment.

Helton Culver, 39, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Failing to Stop After an Accident and Backing without Safety on March 29, 2022. Today he was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, with all time suspended, and was placed on two years of probation with the following condition: pay $1,076.36 in restitution to the victim. In addition, his operator’s license was suspended for 180 days for the Hit Skip and to pay a $25 fine for the Backing without Safety charge.

Director of Law, Rob Broeren, represented the City of Mount Vernon and the State of Ohio in the remaining cases.

APRIL 11

Christian Wiles, 22, of Butler, was found guilty of Driving Under an FRA Suspension and Failure to Use Reasonable Control. The Court sentenced him to pay a $250 fine for the DUS charge and a $25 fine for Failing to Control.

Michael Deem, 42, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended, placed him on two years of community service with the following conditions: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention and complete a drug and alcohol assessment, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.

John Turner, 41, of Newark, was found guilty of Possession of Marijuana. The Court sentenced him to pay a $125 fine.

Seth Tucker, 22, of Utica, was found guilty of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence. The Court sentenced him to pay a $500 fine, serve 30 days in jail, and suspended his operator’s license for one year.

Abigail Orsborn, 31, of Newark, was found guilty of Having Physical Control Over a Motor Vehicle While being Under the Influence. The Court sentenced her to pay a $500 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended, placed her on two years of community service with the following condition: attend and complete a 72-hour driver intervention, and affirmed the BMV’s Administrative License suspension.

Assistant Director of Law, Brittany Whitney, represented the City of Mount Vernon and the State of Ohio in the remaining cases.
