MOUNT VERNON — Knox County detectives charged a juvenile, who is a student at the Knox County Career Center, with disorderly conduct after a video circulated of the individual displaying a gun and putting it in a backpack.

Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer said Tuesday detectives determined the charge to be appropriate based on the prosecutor’s review of the video.

Local law enforcement began investigating the video Dec. 17, when students at the KCCC reported it to a teacher.

“The situation was investigated and it was determined that there was no immediate threat to the KCCC students and staff,” a statement from the KCCC posted Dec. 17 read. “Law Enforcement was contacted and is currently handling the situation.”

The incident was reported at 10:47 a.m. on Dec. 17 and labeled under the incident code “threats,” according to the initial narrative report.

The video surfaced amid a TikTok trend warning of nationwide school shootings or other violence on Dec. 17. It is unclear if the video of the Knox County student is related to the social media trend.
