MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Career Center school district has hired a new Director of Knox Technical Center (KTC).
Kim Williams began her involvement with the school as a student in 1986 and is now pleased to be leading this educational institution that provides adults with vital career training skills in fields from industrial trades to computer networking.
“We have an incredible team of instructional staff and coordinators who are experts in their field,” Williams said. “I am excited and look forward to working with staff and our stakeholders to best meet the needs of our students and community.”
Williams first enrolled as a Practical Nursing student at Knox Technical Center 35 years ago. She gained experience working with the community in a doctor’s office before returning to KTC as an instructor for the Medical Assistant program.
She was promoted to Coordinator of Allied Health Programs in 2009 and has served as the Coordinator for several programs since then. Williams’ tenure will follow that of Jane Marlow, who is retiring after 12 years as KTC’s Director.
“I’d like to thank Jane Marlow for her dedication and service to our community and our school,” Williams said. “She leaves Knox Technical Center with a strong foundation.
“It currently offers 15 career programs, most of which take less than 1 year to complete, that prepare the student to pass certification or licensure. We take good care of our students here, with a simple enrollment process and hands-on instruction that is built on the skills and competencies relevant to the field of study.”
Williams intends to continue building on this foundation.
“I will be reviewing our current and potential offerings in partnership with each program’s Occupational Advisory Board to ensure that we are putting the needs of our community and students first,” Williams said. “I look forward to more growth as we adapt our school and stay relevant to the times.”
