CORRECTION: The names of write-in candidates who filed to run this November appear in this story under the positions for which they filed, but these names will not appear on the ballot. Voters will be given space to write-in these candidates when they vote, if they so choose, and because these candidates have officially filed to run with the Board of Elections, they will be eligible to win their race if they receive a majority of the votes.

MOUNT VERNON — Knox County voters will have plenty to consider this fall, as 142 candidates and 17 issues are set to appear on the Nov. 2 ballot, according to the Knox County Board of Elections.

The filing deadline for issues and candidates in non-partisan races was Aug. 4. The board met Aug. 16 to certify petitions, BOE Director Kim Horn said.

The deadline to file for partisan races was Feb. 3, and those candidates were certified Feb. 16. Write-in candidates had until Monday to file their petitions.

Of the 53 races in this November’s election, 23 will be contested. A wide range of positions – including seats on city and village councils, township trustee boards, school boards and more – will be up for grabs.

Three of the 17 issues on this fall’s ballot will be countywide items.

The deadline to register to vote in this November’s election is Oct. 4. Early voting begins Oct. 5.

Knox Pages will preview individual races and local issues in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, here is a list of what will appear on this November’s ballot (asterisks denote contested races):
