MOUNT VERNON — Pioneers in Medicine will be featured at the Mound View Cemetery Historical Walking Tour on Sunday, Sept. 12.
This is a free event. Visitors park at Round Hill Dairy across from the cemetery which is located at 307 Wooster Road. At the Round Hill Dairy parking lot, visitors board people movers every 15 minutes from 1 to 3 p.m.
Members of the Antique Tractor Club will provide transportation to the first stop on the tour. The rest of the guided tour includes walking, slightly downhill, so visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. The tour is not handicapped accessible.
Actors will portray the following Knox County medical pioneers: Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Thompson (Mike and Chris Petee), Dr. Jonathan Burr’s wife, Phebe (Deborah Riedmiller), Dr. John Wadhams Russell (Kevin Hutchison), Dr. Ellamae Simmons (Varian and Shawna Wilson), and Ethel Anderson, wife of Dr. Frank Anderson (Karen Smith).
In addition, Susan Ransom McDonald will tell the story of the Ransom Vault, and Cate Blair-Wilhelm will introduce visitors to the mysterious Mausoleum.
