MOUNT VERNON — Don’t know why, there’s no sun up in the sky, stormy weather …

Those of you not in our newsroom today are spared my voice from singing those lyrics posted above.

But the message remains, stormy weather is indeed headed our way today and for the next couple of days. Rain, thunderstorms, hot weather, it could all be part of the mix, according to the National Weather Service.

A very warm, humid, and unstable airmass in place will give rise to off and on showers and storms through Tuesday and into Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. Storms have already occurred in places this morning and more are expected.

It’s possible that isolated damaging wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph.

The weather service warns that locations experiencing repetitive rounds of storms could have high water issues as locally heavy downpours are expected.

There is a threat that the heat index values could climb into the upper 90s across north central Ohio this afternoon and evening. Residents in the region should be aware of the possibility of heat exhaustion.

This could be a factor Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but may be mitigated due to storm potential each of those days.

Rest of Week: There are indications for potential additional strong to severe storms from time-to-time Wednesday through Friday night.

The specific timing and setup for such potential is still uncertain. Additionally, hot and humid conditions are expected again Wednesday (heat index around 100F) and again on Thursday (heat index 100-105F).
