LEXINGTON — A Lexington woman was taken into custody Tuesday evening after her husband’s body was found in the basement of their Second Avenue home, according to authorities.
The identities of the woman and the man were not released as of Wednesday morning.
Lexington police Chief Brett Pauley, in an emailed press release Wednesday morning, said officers received a missing person’s report Tuesday at 10:43 a.m. regarding a 38-year-old man.
“Throughout the course of the investigation, information was gained that the missing man’s wife may have knowledge of his disappearance,” Pauley said.
The chief said police contacted the woman at the residence.
“At first, she was cooperative with officers and allowed them inside their home, but ended the contact and asked them to leave while she picked up her children from school,” the chief said.
Pauley said officers went outside and secured the home while a search warrant was obtained. Armed with the warrant, officers re-entered the residence and found the man dead in the basement, the chief said.
Pauley said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification was contacted to process the residence and a “be on the lookout for” notification was sent to area law enforcement agencies regarding the woman.
The chief said the Ohio State Highway Patrol located the woman at about 6:30 p.m. and she was taken into custody without incident.
Pauley said the names of the two residents are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He said the investigation continues.
