Patrol Officer Matthew McDonald is the Mount Vernon Police Officer of the Year.

MOUNT VERNON — Patrol Officer Matthew McDonald was presented with the Officer of the Year award by Mount Vernon Chief of Police Robert Morgan during a ceremony on Friday.

“The officers and staff at the Mount Vernon Police Department congratulate Ptl. McDonald on being awarded Officer of the Year and thank him for his excellent service,” Morgan said.

McDonald was nominated for the award by his peers and was presented the award in the presence of his family and fellow officers at the Mount Vernon Police Department.

McDonald joined the Mount Vernon Police Department in May of 2020 after serving with the Shreve Police Department since October 2019.

Prior to attending the Police Academy at North Central State, McDonald was in the United States Navy for 13 years where he served on multiple deployments including Iraq.
