MOUNT VERNON — With the recent addition of 20 more confirmed cases, Knox County’s COVID-19 count is just shy of 600.
“As of this morning, I have not had a call from the state department of health saying that we’re going to red or even purple, but I would be flabbergasted if we did not,” Knox County Health Commissioner Julie Miller said. “We are prepared with information on what to do if we go red as well as going purple.”
Knox County is currently at Level 2 (orange) with 574 cases. Level 3 (red) denotes a public emergency with high level of exposure and spread. Level 4 (purple) denotes severe exposure and spread.
“The number of families that we have quarantined because they decided to go to a wedding or other event without wearing a mask is unbelievable,” said Miller.
“The hospital numbers are up again today. That concerns me a little bit,” she continued. “They are not overwhelmed yet, but they are suffering the effects of Covid because a lot of their staff are sick.”
Miller will do a Facebook Live presentation at 5 p.m. today. Knox Pages will update this story as more information becomes available.
