MILAN — Mighty close, mighty fine, Edison wore a victory shine after clipping Clear Fork 35-28 in an Ohio high school football matchup on Saturday night.

Edison’s train of momentum chugged along the fourth-quarter tracks with a 14-0 points differential. Clear Fork moved ahead of Edison 28-21 to start the final period, but fell to the Chargers’ furious rally.

The start wasn’t the problem for the 20th-seeded Colts. Brady Tedrow’s 64-yard run put the visitors on top 7-0 less than a minute into the game.

Edison answered on Luke Bissell’s TD pass to Aiden Hayward to tie it. Clear Fork’s Ashton Lyon scooted in on a 13-yard gallop to make it 14-7 after the first period.

Hayward struck again on a 22-yard sprint to tie it 14-14 at the half.

The 13th-seeded Chargers (5-2) moved in front when Clay Byington scampered in from 12 yards out to make it 21-14.

Back came the Colts (2-5) on Tedrow’s 3-yard plunge, followed three minutes later by Kaleb Hollar’s 2-yard TD blast. That pushed Clear Fork on top 28-21 entering the final 12 minutes. Alas the Colts would not score again.

Hayward’s 75-yard bolt knotted the contest, and Bissell’s 13-yard run was the game-winner with 7:11 remaining.

The Colts saw their two-game winning streak snapped.

Edison travels to fourth-seeded LaGrange Keystone next week.
