MOUNT VERNON — The seemingly longest April in the recorded history of mankind is not going to leave us without one more shot from Mother Nature.

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland is predicting strong winds and potentially heavy rains Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

Gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph are expected, perhaps stronger during shower or thunderstorm activity across Richland, Ashland, Knox and Crawford counties.

It will be warmer today with a high near 67. Consistent south winds of 20 to 23 mph are expected, along with the strong gusts. The chance of rain is 80 percent with up to half an inch possible today.

More showers are likely tonight as winds calm down and we see a low around 50. Winds will remain from the south at 11 to 14 mph with gusts up to 26. The chance of rain is 70 percent with another half an inch possible.

On Thursday, which will officially bring April to an end, the chance of rain is 80 percent with up to another quarter of an inch possible. The high will be 57 and winds from the south between 13 and 16 mph.

If it’s any consolation, the weekend looks improved in terms of weather.
