Dear Editor,
Mount Vernon City Government should get out and stay out of the Knox Cattlemen’s Dam issue. Currently, four of the seven members of City Council have conflicts of interest and cannot vote on or discuss this issue anyway.
At the same time the ownership of this dam and who’s responsible for paying for it is unclear and will be likely litigated for years. Let the Ohio Department of Natural Resources inspect it, repair it, and assess the costs. Let the courts then sort it out if needed.
There’s no reason why Mount Vernon taxpayers should spend $300,000 now when we don’t know what repairs are needed, how much they are going to cost, or who should be responsible for paying for them.
Sincerely,
Scott Allan Pullins, Esq.
