Kathryn M. Carter

Kathryn M. Carter, 98, of Mount Vernon passed away on Monday morning, March 18, 2019 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. She was born in Kenton on January 9, 1921 to the late Carl E. and Lenore (Fulton) Carter.

Kathryn was a 1939 graduate of Kenton High School and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Mount Saint Joseph College and Ohio Dominican University. She retired in 1984 from the Mount Vernon City Schools with 32 years of teaching. In 1974, Kathryn was named Outstanding Teacher of America. Kathryn was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the National Retired Teachers Association and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame fan.

Kathryn is survived by her sister, Mary Laverna Bechtel; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to the parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruthanne Borgedine, Louise Greer, Lois Miller and Vivian Baum; and brothers, Robert, James and Melvin Carter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Homer Blubaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
