ASHLAND – An Ashland police officer shot a man Saturday night while responding to a report of a suspect threatening people with a knife.

Two Ashland Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Sandusky St. at approximately 11:40 p.m. in response to a report of an intoxicated male threatening two family members with a knife, according to a news release from Ashland Police Division Chief David Marcelli.

When officers arrived, the man “advanced toward them” and an officer fired one shot from his issued service pistol, the release states. The officer’s name has not been released.

The male and a female were transported by Ashland Fire Division personnel to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.

The names and conditions of the male and female have not been released. No officers were injured. 

The scene and shooting investigation were turned over to the Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

No other information was immediately available Sunday afternoon at the time of publication.
