Shirley A. Lloyd, 82, of Marengo and formerly of Mt. Gilead, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 24, 2018 at St. Ann’s Hospital following a short illness.

She was born on Aug. 6, 1936 in Johnsville to the late Ira and Mable Irene (Hildebrand) Ruhl. After graduating from Johnsville High School in 1955, she would marry Joseph “Joe” Lloyd and together they shared in life’s journey side by side and through thick and thin for over 61 years. Sadly, Joe passed away in 2017.

First and foremost she was a beloved wife and mother. While in high school she worked at Isaly’s and in addition to raising her family over the years she worked in Galion with Woolworth’s and North Electric, as well as a cashier for the former Conley’s store and Burkes meats in Mt. Gilead. She then worked as the manager of the Kimmel Cleaners store also in Mt. Gilead for 21 years.

Shirley also helped with the family farm and during the winters operating their sugar camp. Needless to say, she was not one afraid of hard work.

A dedicated member of the Mt. Gilead First Baptist Church, she also sang in the church choir over her 60 plus years of membership. Active in the Masonic bodies, she was a Past Matron of Electra Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, Masonic Retirees, and High 12 Club of Mansfield.

Skilled with a needle and thread, she also enjoyed gardening and in her spare time collecting bells, salt and pepper shakers, thimbles, and Precious Moments.

Happiest sewing or quilting, she will be remembered for her hard working ways, particular nature, and love of family.

She is survived by children: Joseph (Diana), Debora, and Christopher “Chris” Lloyd, grandson Clayton, great-grandchildren Jadon, Aria, Chloe, sister Zelda (Don) Gill, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead, Ohio 43338 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral services at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, 51 W. High St., Mt. Gilead, Ohio 43338.

Friend and Pastor Steve Bloomfield will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead or Assemblies of God, 1445 N. Bloomville Ave., Springfield, Missouri 65802 in the name of Kate Williams.
