James R. “Jim” Johnson, 77, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home surrounded by family.
Jim was born on March 10, 1941 in Brinkhaven, Ohio to the late Guy and Rosella (Corwin) Johnson Sr. He was a long-time and valued employee of Chattanooga Glass and later the Mount Vernon Nazarene College.
He served in the United States Army from 1960-1966 where he served on the Honor Guard for President Kennedy’s Funeral. He met the love of his life Kathy Sellers and married in 1973.
Jim was a faithful servant of Christ and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon where he taught Sunday School, was a Deacon and Usher. It is as a servant of Christ that his family finds comfort with the promise of the resurrection and eternal life.
Jim is survived by his wife, of over 45 year, Kathy (Sellers) Johnson; his brother John Johnson; and countless friends whose lives have been touched by Jim.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Edward Johnson Jr. and his sister Patricia Hamrick. Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. A service will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill Barton officiating.
