Odelva A. Coon

Odelva A. Coon, 86, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 10, 1932 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the daughter of William and Olive (Carpenter) Ridenbaugh.

Odelva retired in 1997 after 28 years of employment with Jeld-Wen in Mount Vernon. She was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555, Amvets Post #95 and Veterans of Foreign Wars #4027.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, but she was also a stern parent and wasn’t afraid to discipline her children to teach them how to treat others with respect and dignity. Odelva was a faithful and loyal wife to her husband Leonard A. Coon Jr. for 56 years and most often where one of them could be found, the other was not far behind.

She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

Odelva is survived by her two sons; Eritt Coon, of Mount Vernon, and Brad (Joan) Coon, of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Corby (Brittany) Coon, Craig Coon, Shad Bevington, Lori (Mark) Briegel and Nick (Kelsey Mulpas) Coon; five great grandchildren, Camden, Colin, Courtney, Lyndsay and Brooklyn.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard A. Coon Jr., a sister, Bessie Clinedinst, and a brother, William “Sonny” Ridenbaugh.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 beginning at noon at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
