FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown FFA chapter sent three teams to the Knox County Parliamentary Procedure contest and each placed in the top four.

The club hosted the event at the Fredericktown Administration building.

This competition consists of two parts. Participants must complete a written test that consists of basic parliamentary procedure questions relating to various special abilities.

Teams must also conduct a mock meeting and demonstrate their ability to correctly carry out the motions mentioned above in under 12-15 minutes. The demonstration portion of the contest includes main motions, which members must discuss. The secretary notes are scored and included in the team’s score for this competition.

Fredericktown FFA Novice B Team Parliamentary procedure

Novice teams must also include the FFA opening and closing ceremonies in their mock meeting.

The Advanced parliamentary procedure team placed 4th overall and the team members were: Marissa Simmons, Heaven Martin, Maribeth Pozderac, Jake Sanders, Alexa Jones, and Haley Rook.

The Novice A team took 2nd place overall and qualified to advance to the District 7 contest. Those members were: Sadie Sanders, Malaya Smith, Audrey Bouton, Emily Rook, Andrea Smith, Tayla Martin, Makayla Scott, Emma Reed, Katie Mull and Nikki Frazier.

The Novice B team 4th overall and those team members were: Macy Thorne, Cody Corry, Lily Jeffers, Jesse VanAtta, Alanna Diehl, Kaid Benson, Rachel Matthews, and Steven Tumbleson.

Fredericktown FFA Advanced Team

In addition, members from the Fredericktown FFA chapter competed in the District 7 Food Science Competition held at Zane Trace High School in Chillicothe.

As part of the food science contest, participants must determine the flavors of various food items, as well as analyze three samples of the same type of food and decided which id different. They must also be able to identify various pieces of equipment and tell when and what it is used for, assesses food product problems and determine whether it is a safety of quality issue, and recognize different aromas of spices and other flavoring components.

There is also an online test that all members must take for this event and only the top 16 from each school may compete. The test consists of questions relating to food handling, packaging, and basic knowledge.

The Fredericktown team placed 10th overall in the district competition. Members were: Sadie Sanders, James Grubaugh, Natalie VanMeter, Ethan Smith, Haley Rook, Andrea Smith, Heaven Martin, Cody Corry, Lily Jeffers, Makayla Scott, Emily Rook, Katie Mull, Fisher Brake, and Alexa Jones.
