Dean H. Gerhart, 61, of Fredericktown passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, Nov. 30, 2018 at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1957 in Mansfield to Sonia (Rinehart) Gerhart and the late Howard T. “Hod” Gerhart.
Dean was a 1975 graduate of Clear Fork High School and he honorably served his country in the Air National Guard and the Army National Guard. He served on the Fredericktown Fire Department from 1984 to 2005, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Dean enjoyed riding his Goldwing, hunting, shooting clays, working with horses, working on cars and helping others. He was a member of the NRA and the Goldwing Road Riders Association.
Dean is survived by his wife, Brenda (Smith) Gerhart whom he married on June 25, 1977; son, James “Jimmy” (Jennifer) Gerhart of Pataskala; daughters, DeAnda (Andrew Bradish) Elliott of Mount Vernon and Stacy (Brent) Brackett of Mansfield; grandchildren, Austin, Hailey, Faith, Andrew Jr., Jessica, Brianna, Mikayla, Brooklyn and Owen; three great grandchildren; his mother, Sonia of Bellville; brother, Scott (Brenda) Gerhart of Bellville; mother-in-law, Betty Smith of Fredericktown; his grand canines, Cooper and Sydney; and longtime friends, Patrick and Yvonne Lee.
In addition to his father, Dean was preceded in death by a brother, Todd M. Gerhart; and an infant granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Dean at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, 123 Columbus Rd., Fredericktown with Rev. Richard Hasley and Pastor Paul Walls officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
