Jeffery A. Hicks, age 73, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Jeff was a loving husband, brother-in-law, uncle, son and friend. He was born on June 26, 1945 in Montreal, Quebec to the late Dr. Fred and Mary Helen (Phillips) Hicks.
During summers when Jeff was young, he attended Comack Camp in Ontario, as a camper and later as a counselor and swim instructor for both American and Canadian Red Cross. He graduated from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia with a degree in history, English and political science. He always loved reading about and talking about history. He worked in sales and purchasing. In 1980, Jeff met and married Colleen Conard. They lived several years in Illinois, where they both worked for Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook. Jeff always loved nature, and after returning to Ohio, Colleen and Jeff owned Sleepy Hollow Farm for several years, where he grew and sold pumpkins, and grew pine and birch trees. Jeff especially enjoyed gardening and loved rocks and trees. He also loved photography, and was always ready to capture a picture of a beautiful flower.
Jeff was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife Colleen, a sister-in-law, Karen Seward of Mount Vernon; two nephews, Brice (Dawn) Seward of Shreve and Andrew (Amy) Seward of Fredericktown; great-nephews, Miles and Emerson Seward of Fredericktown.
Along with his parents Jeff is preceded in death by, a brother, Fred Hicks of Illinois; a sister-in-law, Kathy Culwell.
A memorial service will be held at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church: 205 N Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Ernst and Rev. Dr. John Capper officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM at the church.
