Glenn Z. Sutherland, 78, of Mount Gilead, passed away following a brief illness, Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side.
On March 18, 1940, Glenn was born in Colley, Virginia, a son of the late William D. and Ailcy B. (Fuller) Sutherland. He graduated from Haysi High School in Virginia in the Class of 1959.
On his 21st birthday, March 18, 1961, Glenn married the love of his life, Audrey E. Imhoff. They shared the last 57 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
For most of his life, Glenn worked as an automotive body repair man at numerous shops including Mathews Ford in Marion and C&D Chevy in Mount Gilead, from where he retired.
In his spare time, Glenn enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, and taking care of his lawn. There is nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Glenn’s orneriness and his great sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Glenn will be dearly missed by his wife, Audrey, of Mount Gilead; his daughter, Dolores (Marty) Sterritt, of Edison; two grandchildren: Issiah (Nichole) Sterritt, of Mount Gilead, Tynafae (Chase) Gherman, of Marion; two great grandchildren: Caden and Colton Sterritt; a brother, Adron (Gail) Sutherland, of Mount Gilead; two sisters: Nina (Everett) Rice, of Newport News, Virginia, Carol (Victor) Breeding, of Davenport, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, William Terry Sutherland; five brothers: Maynard, Clayton, Gale, Omar and Roger Sutherland; and three sisters: Lenis Thomas, Merle Fletcher and Tiny Va Sutherland.
Private services will be held by Glenn’s family at a later date.
