MORRIS TOWNSHIP — A Marengo man was killed and a Mount Vernon teen hurt after a one-vehicle crash at approximately 8:10 p.m. Friday in Morris Township, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
According to a press release from the Post, Scott A Curnutte, 21, of Marengo, was pronounced dead at the scene, while 19-year-old passenger Alexa R. Doup suffered minor injuries and was transported to Knox Community Hospital after the one-vehicle crash.
The Patrol stated that Curnutte was driving a 1999 BMW 328i eastbound on Township Road 389 when he lost control on the wet road. The vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Curnutte was not wearing a seatbelt while Doup was wearing a safety belt. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash, the Patrol stated.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Mount Vernon Fire Department, Mount Vernon EMS and Fredericktown EMS.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
