ASHLAND — Hospice of North Central Ohio (HNCO) has announced Dr. John Shultz to its board of directors.
Shultz retired in 2016 after serving as the eighth president of Ashland Theological Seminary since 2006 and as a professor in prior years. A licensed psychologist, he contributed significantly to the mental health field in the Ashland area as founder and chief executive officer of Cornerstone Psychological Affiliates, Inc. and co-founder and clinical director of Appleseed Community Mental Health Center.
A longtime Ashland resident, Shultz has been married to Jeanie for 48 years, and they have two grown children and four grandchildren. He serves on the North Central Regional Leadership Team of the Brethren Church; is a member of Friends of Brookside Golf Course; and is an elder at Five Stones Community Church.
“I have always had great respect for the services offered by HNCO,” Shultz said. “For a number of years I asked a representative to present their programs in my Death and Dying classes, but it wasn’t until my mother’s passing that I realized the full extent of Hospice’s incredible work.
“Mother’s last days were spent in the care of skilled, compassionate and dedicated professionals who made those days as comfortable and peaceful as possible. So, it’s a privilege to do what I can to support and strengthen the work of Hospice of North Central Ohio.”
HNCO Board President Joshua Hughes said, “We are thrilled to have such an outstanding community member and leader joining our board. With his business acumen and caring and compassionate spirit, John embodies the traits we need to keep Hospice of North Central Ohio thriving.”
