MIDDLEBURY TOWNSHIP — The Mount Gilead Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle, double fatality that occurred at approximately 5:33 p.m., July 7 on Township Road 371.
William Fontaine, 21, of Columbus, was operating a 2012 Nissan Juke eastbound on Township Road 371. Jaylen Foster, 21, of Columbus, was a passenger.
Fontaine went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and went off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment, overturned and struck a utility pole. Both occupants were ejected and the vehicle came to final rest on the roadway.
Fontaine and Foster were transported to the Knox Community Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Next of kin for both have been notified. The Mount Gilead Post was assisted by the Fredericktown Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Patrol Post.
