MOUNT VERNON — Junior Joey McDonald from Lebanon, Ohio threw for a personal record in the shot put, as well as a new school record with a throw of 16.29m or 53′ 4.44″ to win the event at the Crossroads League Championships.
Teammate Mitchell Soviak was not far behind with a throw of 16.12m or 52′ 8.87″ to earn second place. Both of McDonald and Soviak’s throws met the NAIA’s “A” standard in the event.
The graduate of Lebanon High School in McDonald has now improved his mark in each event this indoor season, and earned All-Crossroads League honors for the impressive performance. MVNU finished fifth of ten teams in the ever-competitve Crossroads League meet, and McDonald’s ten points were a significant contribution to that result.
McDonald is studying Business Management at MVNU, and will be competing for a National Championship in the shot put from March1 through March 3 at the NAIA Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
