MOUNT VERNON — The Yellow Jackets will begin their postseason odyssey within the friendly confines of The Hive.
The central district girls basketball tournament draw was held Sunday afternoon and Mount Vernon earned the No. 28 seed in the 50-team Division I field. The Jackets will host No. 34 Marion Harding in a Division I sectional semifinal game at 1 p.m. Feb. 17.
The winner will play at No. 5 Westerville South for a sectional championship at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
The Presidents beat the Yellow Jackets 46-35 in the season opener in Marion back on Nov. 25. Mount Vernon has been playing well recently, winning six in a row before a loss to Columbus Patterson on Jan. 27.
In Division III, No. 21 East Knox (2-14) will play at No. 5 Amanda-Clearcreek at 7 p.m. Feb. 20. The winner will host No. 22 Fredericktown (2-14) at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 for a sectional championship.
Also in Division III, No. 8 Centerburg (14-6) will host No. 10 Marion Elgin at 7 p.m. Feb. 20. The winner will host No. 12 Worthington Christian for a sectional championship at 1 p.m. Feb. 24.
In Division IV, No. 4 seed Danville (11-8) will host No. 14 Village Academy at 7 p.m. Feb. 21. The Blue Devils boast two of the top four scorers in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference in CeCe Newbold (16 points per game) and Lauren Mickley (15 points per game).
