Gene Gilbert “Happ” Henthorn Sr., 82, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at Centerburg Respiratory and Specialty Rehab Center.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1935 in Athens County, Ohio, to the late Gilbert and Garnet (Beard) Henthorn.

Happ loved cars and was a great car enthusiast. He participated in many “cruise-in’s” and winning several Best of Shows with his Crosley and 1955 T-Bird.

He served his country for over 20 years in the United States Air Force with the Strategic Air Command. He retired from being a truck driver and loved to travel and see the country side. His greatest love was being around his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Allison) Henthorn; a son, Gene G. (Lila) Henthorn Jr, grandchildren, Allison, Trey, Andrew, Matthew, Jennifer, Jesse and Christopher; two great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Henthorn; a sister, Helen Chaney; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Happ is preceded in death by a son, Thomas Henthorn; a daughter, Margene L. Drake; a brothers, Joe, Camden and John Henthorn; sisters, Zaida Bevington, and Myra Mooney.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date.
