CLEVELAND – Senior Matthew Cooper got the Kenyon College Lords swimming and diving team to put their best foot forward starting the new year as he guided the team to a 180-84 dual-meet win against Oberlin College.
Monday, the North Coast Athletic Conference recognized his efforts and named him the Swimmer of the Week.
Cooper kick-started the meet against the Yeomen by swimming the butterfly leg on the Lords’ winning 200-yard medley relay team. He turned in a 22.01 split and the team posted a final time of 1:38.95.
His butterfly stroke also held up on its own, as Cooper went to win the 200-yard butterfly race in a time of 1:53.42.
Back in relay competition, Cooper closed out the meet with the Lords’ winning 200-yard freestyle team, one that clocked in at 1:30.75. He swam the anchor leg, turning in a 21.22 split.
Cooper and the Lords now own a 1-3 dual meet record and will next be in action during a home meet against Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, Jan. 26.
