MOUNT VERNON – If 2018 is the year you resolve to feel better, massage therapy may be just what you need. Stress, pain, sleep issues, and digestive problems are common ailments affecting all of us at one time or another.

While many seek prescription drugs to help, massage therapy can provide a drug-free alternative.

Jason Speece is a native of Knox County and a licensed massage therapist who graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Knox Technical Center. He recently opened his own practice, Phoenix Massage Therapies, at 1661 Venture Drive, Suite C. Speece says the focus of his practice is to help people by “relieving dysfunction.”

Dysfunction is defined as an abnormality or impairment in the function of a specified body organ or system. In layman’s terms Jason seeks to help individuals help themselves so that they can reach a better quality of life.

He’s trained in Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, and Neuromuscular Therapy.

Jason says massage is for “Anyone that’s looking for a way to feel better. If you’re working a 9 to 5 job you’re not always able to be active, especially if you’re sitting at a desk the majority of the day. Massage is a great way to not just relax but also bring blood to the muscles that aren’t always able to be utilized fully, and can help reduce soreness or reduce tension in muscles caused by stress.”

An hour of massage can equate to an hour of working out, just without the heart rate [elevation], because you’re bringing blood to the fibers in the muscles.

Jason adds, “Whether you had an injury in the past that’s bringing down your quality of life or pain or sleep issues, massage can do a lot in a positive way. Positive touch is a very powerfully healing thing.”

Jason says he decided to pursue this field because he is an empathetic person and has always had a desire to help his fellow man.

Those seeking a massage will receive a consultation first to assess issues to be addressed with massage

therapy. In addition to the consultation those seeking a massage will need to fill out an intake form so Jason can properly know if massage is indicated or contraindicated, okay or not okay, based on what injuries you’ve had in the past, what kinds of medications you’re on that are controlling certain health issues.

Depending on those issues, Jason will consult your physician to make sure it’s recommended to give you a massage. If it is medically recommended, Jason will provide a safe and comfortable environment where clients are draped at all times to preserve their modesty.

Massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are looking to relieve stress.

Phoenix Massage Therapies offers evening and weekend appointments which can be made by calling 740-398-2172 or by emailing Jason at JasonPhoenixMT@gmail.com. Discounts are given to veterans and those with a school I.D.
