MOUNT VERNON — November is National Adoption Awareness Month and Knox County Children Services would like to take this opportunity to increase its focus on outreach and education.
The agency is hosting a free Movie Night on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon. Families are invited to watch the movie, “Santa Paws,” and refreshments will be provided.
Representatives from Knox County Children Services will provide information on how to become a foster or adoptive parent, including the application process, training and support offered by the agency. Knox County will be hosting pre-service training for prospective foster/adoptive parents starting in February 2018 and insight into that process will be shared.
Foster parents provide temporary homes to boys and girls of all ages, typically for six to 12 months. Foster parents may be any adult age, single or married and of any religious affiliation. They must be willing to work as part of a team and provide patience, stability and love. The need for foster homes in Knox County continues to grow.
We encourage anyone who has considered fostering or adopting to join us, along with their families, on Nov. 29.
