MOUNT VERNON – Despite five town hall meetings and additional efforts by law enforcement to combat the drug epidemic, the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office has released what they call “staggering” drug case statistics for this year.
With two months left in 2017 there have been 91 meth cases. That surpasses the number of drug cases in 2016.
There have been 24 heroin cases in 2017 and that trend is on track to double such cases in 2016.
There have been three drug cases involving fetanyl compared to none in previous years.
Six indictments for “Permitting Drug Abuse” have been issued. That charge means allowing someone to deal drugs in your home.
26 Trafficking cases – more than double from 2016.
143 the total number of drug cases indicted by the end of October 2017.
