MOUNT VERNON- Knox County Detective Sergeant David Light retired this week after 25 years of full-time service. He began his law enforcement career as a member of the Knox County Explorer Post #390 during which time he also served as chief of cadets. Light graduated from Central Ohio Technical College in 1991 with an Associates of Applied Science in Criminal Justice as well as his Ohio Peace Officer Certification. He became a Special Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office and served as an Explorer Post advisor.
In 1992, Sheriff Paul K. Rowe hired Light to a full-time temporary position in the Knox County Jail. That year he graduated From Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Police Administration.
In January 1993, Light was hired as a full time Deputy at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office by newly elected Sheriff, David B. Barber. He was assigned to the Village of Centerburg as a Patrol Deputy before later moving to countywide patrol.
During his career David has served as a member of the Tactical Response Unit, Marine Patrol, and Bike Patrol.

In 2005, David was voted Deputy of the Year by his co-workers.
In 2008, David was selected to join the Detective Division, and was promoted to sergeant in 2015.
Sgt. Light has conducted presentations for law enforcement officers and criminal justice students concerning the Tina Herrmann, Kody Maynard, and Stephanie Sprang homicides.
In addition to working for the Sheriff’s Office he spent about 12 years as a volunteer first with the Danville Fire Department and later with the College Twp. Fire Dept.
October 31, 2017, David retired from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with 25 years of full-time service. He will join the Knox County Special Deputies Unit and hopes to continue his service to the community and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you for your service.
