MOUNT VERNON – Beautiful 19th century coverlets created by Knox County weavers in the 1840’s and 1850’s will be the topic at the Wednesday, November 1, meeting of the Knox County Historical Society, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Museum, 875 Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon.
The program will be presented by Sharon Pinka, a well-known area independent quilt researcher and scholar who serves as secretary of the American Quilt Study Group Board of Directors, as well as a Trustee for the Richland County Museum. She is a retired teacher and librarian with a strong interest in Ohio history, woven coverlets and quilts. Her published writings have focused on embroidered quilts, especially those of the Rainbow Quilt Block Company.
Many of the signed and dated coverlets in the Museum collection woven by the Ardner, Yearous, and other families in Knox County will be on display for the evening’s program. The meeting is free and open to the public, and all persons interested in area history are invited to attend.
