MOUNT VERNON — When local law enforcement personnel saw a need in the community, they jumped in to help.
Since 2003, the Knox County Chapter of the Byron Saunders Foundation has provided food items for a Thanksgiving meal for families who have experienced a hardship during the year. Sometimes families have difficulty picking up their meals due to work schedules, medical conditions or transportation issues. On Saturday, members of the Mount Vernon, Danville and Fredericktown police departments and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office delivered 51 meal boxes, helping to ensure a memorable Thanksgiving for these families.

“I was just awestruck that our law enforcement agencies would take on helping to make sure these families receive a Thanksgiving meal,” said Ginny Williams, president of the Knox County Chapter of BSF. “They realized there’s a need in the community and they jumped in there to help.
“It gets to the heart of our program,” she continued. “It’s good to know that with the help of local law enforcement, we’re really making a difference in people’s lives. We appreciate having the police departments and sheriff’s office on board. That’s what community is all about.”
The meals are provided through the BSF’s One Meal at a Time project.
