MOUNT VERNON – The MVPD utilized social media to thank the community for its support of the department in recent weeks. The post this morning said,
“For the past couple of weeks this Department has had an overwelming amount of support from Pre-Schoolers, daycares, wives, businesses, and citizens…It has not gone unnoticed and is deeply appreciated by everyone. I know how luckly we are to live in this great community…Thank you all from the Mount Vernon Police Department!”
Additionally, a peaceful rally to support local law enforcement is being planned for August 6 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the Public Square.
Cindy Thomas-Cline is the organzier of this event. She says that after the recent shootings in Dallas, Texas, in which five officers were killed in an ambush, “I watched a video where an officer said they don’t feel supported on any day and it broke my heart. I have tried to show my appreciation for officers earlier by thank you cards and gift cards but it never felt like enough. In light of the way things are I think they need to know we are behind them more now than ever.”
At the event a prayer will be said and signs will be permitted. Cline says they will give out bracelets (while supplies last) that say, “Police Lives Matter.”
Also the Well Armed Woman’s group will have a table set up to show their support and tell a little about their organization.
